The Rank for $ales Weekly Newsletter

March 20, 2004 edition, issue: 04-0255
Current circulation: 16,526
Editor: Serge Thibodeau

Hello everybody! It was a busy week this week and there is quite a bit of news, with all the changes implemented at Yahoo and with Google that started dancing Tuesday evening. In fact, Yahoo is today featured in the article I just wrote yesterday, and is part of our 2 weekly featured articles.

For those that are new to SEO, Google usually starts 'dancing' on Friday nights, although this can be changed at any time, as we all saw this week.

Always remember that, during any Google dance, results usually vary and fluctuate a lot, hence the term "dance". In fact, Google started updating its PR (Page Rank™) database as early as 7.30 PM (EST) on Tuesday. Note that, with Rank for $ales and the post I did on my blog, we were the first to report to the industry what was happening in Google's data centers that evening.

Still, as I posted on my blog Tuesday afternoon, in the past 2 months, Google hasn't been updating its PR database fast enough. In fact, they haven't updated it since January 24, so they have entirely skipped the February PR update altogether, which is unusual for Google.

Week ending Friday, March 19, 2004
In the news, the week started with word that Coneteq, a search engine being developed in Lebanon, is to be launched at the end of this year. Its developers say its going to be “an enormous success”. Tom Holzel, founder of Velocity Associates, a US-based consulting company that has been employed to promote the search engine, wrote to us about this news story.
