PriceGrabber.com acquired by British firm

GUS Plc has acquired PriceGrabber.com for $485 million to add the U.S. provider of Internet comparison shopping services to its Experian credit checking facility.

"This acquisition further complements Experian's existing online operations, connecting consumers to businesses over the Internet", London-based GUS Plc said yesterday in a Regulatory News Service statement.

The transaction is being financed from existing bank facilities.

California-based PriceGrabber.com compared prices of products such as computers and clothing for more than seventeen million Internet users last month, GUS said.

The business connects users to more than 9,000 online retailers, who pay each time they get a lead.

"When combined with the complementary skills, expertise and scale of Experian, in both interactive and marketing, we are very excited about the future growth prospects for PriceGrabber.com", Experian Chief Executive Don Robert said in a statement.
