(Continued)

I have a question about redirecting to newly named web pages on a free server. I have a holiday website on such a server, and want to change the names of some of my files to better represent the web pages' content. Since these files have long since been indexed by all the major search engines, and being on a free server, I don't have control over any 301 redirects or an htaccess file.

Is there any legitimate way (search-engine-wise) that I can change file names while not losing my place in the search engines? Or will I have to use a link on each old page that points to each new web page, respectively, if meta refresh tags are no good because they get penalized?

I'm also not sure if the robots.txt file would function in an account on a free server. I'm also not sure if I should just take out the content in the old pages and replace it with a "Moved" notice to the new page, or leave the content on both the old page and the new page and do whatever is needed to direct the visitor to the new page, although that may be seen as duplication.
