Hello again everybody and welcome back! This week was a fairly busy week on the newsfront, although there were a bit less than last week, so let's get down to it right away.

On Monday, New York-based DoubleClick said it would pay $58 million in cash for search engine marketer Performics, plus additional payments of up to $7 million based on future earnings. Performics helps clients automate and track the performance of paid placements in search listings on multiple search engines.

Once the acquisition closes, DoubleClick said it would combine Performics' search marketing technology with its DART system for tracking and analyzing online advertising including banner ads and more sophisticated rich media ads. DoubleClick said it expected an additional $10 million in revenue over the second half of 2004, with search management revenue accounting for slightly less than half of that amount.

In other news, Canadians are more active users of search engines than their US counterparts, with a comScore poll finding that 85% of the population has conducted one or more searches online, compared to 73% of people in the US. comScore collected the data through its qSearch information service, which tracks the usage of search engines by analyzing search queries for various search engines and portals.
